When children experience stress, they often communicate it through their emotions and behaviors. They may appear sad, anxious, irritable, withdrawn, or have difficulty at home, at school, or with peers. These are often signs that a child is having a hard time and may need additional support.
Children communicate through play. I utilize play-based techniques to help children express their thoughts and feelings in ways that feel natural, safe, and developmentally appropriate. My goal is to help children better understand their emotions, strengthen their coping skills, and feel more supported in the challenges they are facing.
An important part of this work is helping the adults in a child’s life better understand what the child may be communicating. I work closely with parents and caregivers so that the support children receive in therapy can also be reinforced in their daily environments and relationships.
